Welcome to my website. Please Check the Announcement page for any critical updates!!!!!.
My Expectations:
I believe every student can achieve at a very high level. It is my job to help you achieve to your fullest potential. So will we work hard?...You bet, but I also try my best to make learning fun and exciting. Let's be honest, not all parts of history are exciting !! I know that we will get through it together. I am happy to be at NGMS and I hope you are. In my classroom we will treat each other with respect. That includes each persons own personal property and space and well as the school's property ( including but not limited to desks, chairs, walls and restrooms).
NGMS is a gum free school.......Please keep this in mind. Doing this will keep you from unneccesary detentions.
Classwork/homework: I do not give a homework assignment just to give you something to do. I don't believe in busy work. If I give you an assignment then you can be assured that the information we learn is important to the overall big picture of the concept we are working on. I often will have class discussions based on previous homework/classroom assignments.
Quizzes:
Here's a hint....some simple quizzes are taken directly from our discussions in class or a recent assignment.
Some quizzes will be more intense if you will . By that I mean that you will have to consider our class discussions and think about the deeper meaning in the concept.
Tests:
I will always give you at least a weeks notice of an upcomming test. It will be posted on the board in the classroom and I will also have you write it in your agenda books. I do provide study guides sometimes referred to as "checklists". Since I post the test far in advance, if you are out sick on the day of the test, you will be expected to take the test the day you return to school.
Grades:
Grades will be posted via the Parent Portal every friday morning beginning the second week of school. I grade what you give me. that means you decide what grade you earn.......!!
Communication:
You can email me at [email protected]. Please be sure that I have a working email and phone number from your parents.
Binder:
I require each student to have a 3 ring binder as this will lead to better academic success. In this binder students are required to keep all handouts given to them.
Warm Up work;
Many days when the students enter my class there will be a few questions on the board for the students to answer as class begins. These questions need to be written in a section created by you in your binder each day. Not just the answers, but the questions need to be written as well. A quiz might come from these warm up questions at any time. These questions will vary in nature...could be physical geography, political and historical.
Test Retakes:
There is a new test re-take policy in place. Students will be allowed to re-take ONE test per subject per each semester. Students will need to complete a re-teach packet before being allowed to retest. The grade entered into the gradebook will be the better of the original test and the re-take grade.
I hope that this has provided you some insight to how my class is and what some of my expectations are and what you can expect from me. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or student concerns.
